Accidental Death
Accidental Death benefits are available for member’s eligible survivor if the member’s death was the natural and proximate result of a personal injury sustained or hazard undergone while in the actual performance of the member’s duties at some definite time and place and without serious or willful misconduct on the member’s part.
Special provisions are applicable to firefighter, police officers, correction officers and public prosecutors killed in the line of duties under certain circumstances.
- Must filed for accidental death benefits within two years of the injury unless an injury report was filed.
- Amount of allowance payable to the member’s eligible beneficiary is 72% of the member’s regular compensation on the date of injury or the last 12-months, whichever is greater provided the member was not working in a temporary capacity which uses a slightly different formula.
